2026 Album Roundup #2
And we're back. Lots more new albums that I've listened to since the last one so here we go.
An Undying Love for A Burning World - Neurosis
I had never heard of these dudes but apparently sludge metal legends that surprise-released this album after a like 10 year hiatus. It's good! Don't always love the vocals. But the instrumentals are dope. Am I becoming a metal nationalist? The world may never know.
U - Underscores
I was so pumped for this one, and it's good, but idk it's just lacking the same hook that Wallsocket seemed to have. Seems to be a trend for me so far this year, lots of good albums, no great ones (yet). Super fun EDM stuff here though, more EDM than hyperpop.
Wuthering Heights - Charli XCX
A good Charli album. Never read the book, never saw the movie. The album is pretty good but I don't really see a need to go back to it as a whole, wall of sound is fun though.
Love is Not Enough - Converge
Another metal (or at least metal-adjacent) release that is really good but yeah, wasn't absolutely blown away or anything. I'm being too negative these are really solid albums. I just want something to be like, oh damn this fkn rules. And it hasn't happened yet for me this year.
Westside Trapped - Heavensouls
Only listened to about 80% of this one and was not fully paying attention but it seemed interesting but not super engaging. Idk. It's jazzy/funky, some interesting thing happens but nothing really grabbed my attention like hey you gotta listen to this more. Maybe I'll come back to it.
To Whom This May Concern - Jill Scott
2026 year of soul baby! This is a good neo-soul album, Jill Scott is an uber-talented vocalist. Worth checking out fo sho.
The Mountain - Gorillaz
This was pretty cool. Cool instrumentals, very hindustani, sitar is always cool to hear. I think it's a bit too long. And there wasn't really a standout track for me. But it's a good listen overall and I think better than other recent Gorillaz releases.
I think that's about it for now, I'm probably forgetting something.
Looking forward to: New bladee singles have been dope, my new band believe, jessie ware. Hope springs ever eternal that dope music will find its way to me.
