Rebecca Black - Age of the Exhibitionist
First of all, here for the Rebecca Black comeback. Friday was a cultural moment and the hate a literal teenage girl got for that song is wild. But this is a fun pop album. Idk that there's a ton of depth here, but hey fun pop music is always worthwhile imo.
Mastodon - Marrow Deep
Decidedly not fun pop music. But this rules. I've known about Mastodon forever, of course, but this is the first album of theirs I've listened to since becoming more metal inclined. This rules I think. I've gotta listen to it more but the first listen was pretty dope.
FJØRT - Belle Epoque
This band is from Aachen, a place I've actually been to wow. Pretty good post-hardcore/screamo vibes here.
Snag - All the Cages Holding Us Will One Day Turn to Dust
This band is from Milwaukee wooooo Wisconsin represent. This is also pretty good screamo/post-hardcore. I only listened to these last two albums once and it was back to back so they kind of blended together in my head.
Chat Pile - Who Loves the Sun
Been very into the last two Chat Pile albums, but idk I'm having a hard time getting into this one. I've listened to it through once and it definitely wasn't bad. I think I just haven't been in much of a metal mood lately. I think this is cool but I gotta listen to it when in a more receptive state of mind.
Phoebe Bridgers - Lost Weekend
Super hyped album, I think it's pretty cool. I've never been hugely on the Phoebe Bridgers wave. Punisher was good for sure but I feel like everything else has been okay to solid. This isn't an exception. I liked it, I haven't felt much of a need to go back to listen to it over again.
Open Mike Eagle/Kenny Segal - Doomed!
Aw yeah some more dope rap for a year that needs it. I've never gotten into Open Mike Eagle much but had to check out this collab with producer Kenny Segal. Real good abstract/jazz rap.
Denzel Curry/Kenny Beats - ii
Denzel is back with Kenny Beats for their second collab following 2020 EP Unlocked, and it goes hard too. Denzel is going as hard as always and the beats are nice. Just another really good Denzel release, the guy just doesn't miss.
Billy Strings - So Much for Goodbyes
I've known about Billy Strings for a while, mostly through collabs with other country artists. This is the first album of his own I've checked out, and its pretty dope. Of course the instrumentation is great. Good songwriting overall. A bit too long imo, 16 tracks and over 75 minutes is a monster of an album. But it's mostly good.
I'm probably missing some, but yeah a good group of releases lately. Debut After LP Friday woo!
