The 15th Best Album of 2025
Number 15 on the list is one many people will have in their top 10, 5, and honestly will be plenty of people's favorite album, and honestly I can't argue. It's a great album, and one of the best rock efforts of the year. It's Getting Killed by Geese.
So I first heard Geese in 2023 when they released 3D country, and woo boy did I dig that album. An indie rock banger with southern rock/alt-country? Yes please. So when singles started coming out for this album and that country influence had vanished I wasn't sure how to feel about it. But I gotta admit they crushed it here. They bounce around quite a bit, starting off with manic energy in Trinidad, lead singer Cameron Winter screaming "There's a bomb in my car!" over and over. The middle gets a bit groovy with Islands of Men and 100 Horses. But I think the closing four tracks are the star here. From 'Au Pays du cocaine' through the big finale 'Long Island City Here I Come' there is not a single misstep. I think these are four best tracks on the album, with big soaring melodies and cutting lyrics. I think that stretch is Geese at their best (so far at least). I think if the beginning of the album (while still great), could match the end I would have this even higher. But while the end is epic, I feel, as albums as a whole, I might prefer 3D country. But that's the fun of music. Regardless, this is a powerhouse of a rock album by one of the most exciting bands on earth right now.
