The 17th Best Album of 2025
Man looking back there were so many dope albums released last year. I almost can't believe this album is 17th, but I go back and look at what is to come and I can't really argue it should be any higher either. My favorite country album of the year ends up at 17, Jason Isbell's Foxes in the Snow.
My feelings on modern country music has been well established at this point. Thank goodness for Jason Isbell just cranking out good album after good album for the better part of the last 15 years. Foxes in the Snow is no exception. Tackling the delicate subject of lost love and divorce, this album is raw and emotional and beautiful. Of course the lyricism is on point as can be expected from Mr. Isbell, but the emotion he can bring with just an acoustic guitar is truly impressive.
It's hits all the way down the modest 11-track list, with my favorites being Gravelweed, Good While It Lasted, and True Believer. But every single song is worth listening and re-listening. A truly fantastic album from front to back and a reason to hope that there is still country music worth wading through the shit for.
