The 28th Best Album of 2025
Did you know Lafayette from Hamilton is the frontman of a horrorcore rap group? Man that still blows my mind. Daveed diggs is too cool. But yeah #28 is Dead Channel Sky by Clipping.
Clipping is another group that I completely missed the rise of with them coming up in the 2010s and especially their back to back 2019-2020 releases being critically acclaimed. I went back and listened to them in 2023 and last year and became a big fan of both, especially 2020s Visions of Bodies Being Burned.
With Dead Channel Sky they leave the overt horror behind, instead focusing on a dystopian technocratic future to somewhat varied levels of success. I think the atmosphere building here is great, as always. The dark production carries over from past efforts even if directed in new angles. And man I do enjoy Diggs style. But idk some tracks just didnt hit and it felt a touch bloated coming in at 53+ minutes. Run it is absolutely dope, as is the closer Ask What Happened. And there's more than enough interesting stuff going on here to keep you interested.
