The 36th Best Album of 2025
Into the mid 30's of the most prestigious countdown this side of the Mississippi and we have Spellling's Portrait of My Heart. I first heard about Spellling (god why does it have 3 L's that's so dumb) when the one and only melonhead gave her 2021 album The Turning Wheel a whole-ass 10. I remember listening to the album after that and being like, damn this dude's opinion fuckin sucks. So I was a little skeptical when the lead single and title track dropped, but damn if it wasn't a total britpop/art pop-rock banger. The rest of the album is strong too, and in my opinion as someone who has listened to her other albums one single time this is easily her best release. The songwriting is good, the vocal performance is good, the instrumentals are good. It's just a damn good album, man.
